Three Ways STEAM Helps You Win at Life

At Northpoint, there are two main ways for students to learn. The first is in our Main Lab, a computer lab where students can take self-guided lessons online, pursuing their interests across a variety of available courses and subjects.

Then there’s our Smart Lab, a STEAM laboratory where students can learn about the principles of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. As a hands-on learning environment, it’s where kids can be creative, work together to solve problems, and explore new practical skills.

It’s also a stepping-stone to post-graduation life. Here are three life-long benefits for students in our STEAM high school:

Students can explore their passions.

STEAM learning encompasses a huge variety of fields, from graphic design and computer programming to civil engineering and robotics. Our Smart Lab challenges students to choose a project from over 175+ assignments and find their own path to solving it and presenting their results. This gives kids an opportunity to pursue their interests and gain skills that interest them.

For scientifically minded students, this might include some of our projects in robotics and building. But students can also practice graphic design, comics creation, magazine printing, and other applied arts. There’s no single set path, so kids can play to their strengths or challenge themselves to do something totally new.

Students learn in a hands-on, practical way.

STEAM learning is all about gaining practical skills and applied knowledge. Some STEM skills are pretty universal, like problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and time management. Other skills are more specific but just as valuable.

In our Smart Lab, students have access to technology they’ve likely never used before, like laser engraving machines and 3D printers. Students have many options and can choose which ones they’d like to use to complete a project, giving total flexibility and plenty of room to grow and explore.

Young people gain real skills for future careers.

Northpoint students can get plenty of help with the transition from school to career. Smart Lab teachers can help students get industry-recognized certificates for specific skills, allowing them to graduate with resume-ready experience.

Northpoint’s STEAM education gives kids a way to test drive a job in a career field they might love, with the support of teachers who want them to succeed.
